February has a way of going by in the blink of an eye. It's a month of looking forward to longer days, warmer weather and fewer layers. The hustle of December is over. The long slow sigh of relief that is January is behind us. The month of heart is here. Shop windows are screaming displays of pinks and reds reminding us to think about our loved ones.
I like to take this month to think about the most forgotten loved one - myself. Its time for a little self-care this month. At this time of year, especially in our dry part of the world, the skin really takes a beating. Dry and itchy skin is common. I'm including a recipe here to help combat that dry February skin and uplift your spirits at the same time. Take some time out this month to treat yourself right. It's not a lot of work or expense to set up a spa night at home. The results are amazing!
Sweet heart body scrub
1 cup fine sea salt
1/2 cup apricot kernel oil
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons flower petals of your choice (optional) rose, lavender or calendula are my favourites.
20 drops essentail oils of your choice
some combanations to try:
- 10 drops geranium, 5 drops bergamot and 5 drops sweet orange for a floral and heartwarming experience
- 10 drops rosemary and 5-10 drops peppermint for an uplifting and invigorating blend
- 10 drops ginger, 5 drops lemongrass and 5 drops sweet orange for a warming and masculin scent
Blend the essential oils together in a dish allowing them to mix with each other first. Add the oil, honey and sea salt. Stir until all is well combined into a grainy paste. Use one tablespoon of the scrub, rub between hands to loosen up the grains. Massage into wet skin for 2-5 minutes, rinse with warm water and pat skin dry.
